Gemini Solar Eclipse – Empower The Mind

By Lilliana Blackstar

We have a New Moon every 29.5 days - a time when the Moon and Sun both occupy the same section of the Zodiac Wheel. A lot of Pagans, Witches, and Spiritual practitioners believe that the New Moon is an ideal time to set intentions or goals. We make wishes about what we want to manifest in the coming month under the energy of the moon being "born anew" at the New Moon. Then, as the moon grows in illumination from the New Moon to brightness of the Full Moon, we envision our wish or goal growing with it.

Approximately twice a year, the New Moon will cross directly in front of the sun - a Solar Eclipse! Not everyone on the planet will see the eclipse - but we can still think of this as an "amplified" New Moon. The New Moon is always a time of Astrological Conjunction between the sun and the moon - but the eclipses are conjunctions that are so precise that the moon actually temporarily blocks out the light of the sun. Think of the solar eclipses as the V.I.P. New Moons of the year; they usually bring change and transformation, or open some kind of doorway for growth.

The first Solar Eclipse of 2021 will occur on June 10th, with sun and moon in the sign of Gemini. Gemini is the sign of the mind, thoughts, ideas, curiosity, and learning. It will be an excellent time to set goals or intentions related to your mind and thought patterns. Have you been curious to learn something new? Have some books that you have been putting off reading? Want to take a class, learn a new language, write a book? This Gemini New Moon Eclipse will be a great time to set those goals and intentions for yourself! The Gemini moon might also reveal to us the ways we can be duplicitous or dual-minded. As the sign of Curiosity, there is a tendency to be non-committal as the attention shifts to the next new and exciting thing. A powerful lesson of Gemini energy is that it is good to be flexible and keep the mind open to new things - but a downfall of this is the tendency to shift gears too rapidly and not follow through. Your "Shadow Work" of this New Moon is to examine these tendencies within yourself, to become aware of potential downfalls so that you can actively work to overcome them.

Here are some questions you can ask yourself. These can be used as questions for introspective journaling during the New Moon, or they can be questions you ask yourself to help clarify the goals and intentions you want to set with this New Moon.

Lessons to tune into for the Gemini Eclipse (New Moon): Are you taking the time to learn about what you are truly curious about? In what situations do you tend to be flighty or noncommittal? Are you feeling restless or changing your mind too frequently? How can you satisfy the urges for new experiences yet make sure you are honoring important commitments? Be aware of urges you have to engage in gossip and check in with yourself about how you are speaking about others. Make time to read that book you've been meaning to read!

Once you have a clear goal in mind, write it down in the form of an affirmation. That is to say, write it down in positive, present tense. For example if your goal is to stop procrastinating and take that botany class you have been wanting to take, your affirmation should state something like "I am taking the Botany class and learning about plants every day." Keep your affirmation in places you will see it every day and read it out loud to yourself often. Set a goal that you will take steps to work towards this goal every day leading up to the Full Moon, when you will re-valuate your goal and celebrate your progress.

The narrow path of the eclipse will be completely visible in parts of Canada, Greenland, the Arctic Ocean and Siberia. It will be partially visible for much of the rest of northeastern North America, Greenland, Northern Europe and northern Asia. Find on this map if the eclipse will be visible for you: https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/map/2021-june-10

The next solar eclipse will not be until December 3, 2021, with the New Moon in Sagittarius. Sagittarius is the opposite sign of Gemini, and we will at that time be balancing and tempering the lessons from Gemini season with the lessons of Sagittarius. It will be a great idea to write down your goals and reflections at this Gemini eclipse so that you can evaluate your progress in 6 months time with the next solar eclipse. * There will not be another Solar or Lunar eclipse in the sign of Gemini until the years 2029 and 2030!

Sending you bright blessings and wishes for a Powerful New Moon! ~ The Ever Green Hearth
